Richard Arlon Hargie

Richard Arlon Hargie, age 87, of Portage, MI passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at his home. He was born on December 14, 1932 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of Alexander and Hazel (Feith) Hargie. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1951. After graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Upon returning home he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at Western Michigan University in 1957. On June 29, 1963 he married the love of his life Beverly Jean Wood. They resided in Portage where they raised their two children: Bruce Hargie and Trisha (Hargie) Lankerd. Richard worked as a salesman for Kalamazoo Fruit Company, Morren Poultry Company, and later worked as a food broker. He retired at the age of 72 and spent his days fishing, playing sequence, spending time with his favorite grandchild: Cecily Guarisco. He was preceded in his passing by his brothers: Robert Hargie and Stuart Hargie. In accordance with Richard’s wishes a private ceremony will be held on a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Oakland Drive Christian Church.
