Richard Monroe

We are saddened to announce the death of Richard "Steve" Monroe, who passed away on December 12th, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Steve was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on September 14th, 1950, to Richard D. Monroe and Constance B. Monroe of Lawrence, MI. He was raised on his family's dairy farm alongside his sister, Connie, on 120 beautiful acres. Steve attended Lawrence Elementary School, later graduating from Lawrence High School in 1968. Growing up, Steve helped on his family's farm, where he learned many life lessons and learned his love for farming, hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor activities that he enjoyed throughout his life. Steve worked at Fruit Acres Farms in Coloma, MI for more than 20 years doing what he loved most. Steve served in the United States Marine Corps and his family is very proud of his service to our country.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Richard Delmain Monroe, and his mother, Constance Beth (Bird) Monroe.

Steve leaves behind 3 children: Jessica (Justin) Cook of Strawberry Plains, TN, Richard Brandon (Hannah) Monroe of Maynardville, TN, and Brittany (Matthew) Schaefer of Mascot, TN; his sister: Constance Jan (Monroe) Young of Plainwell, MI; two grandchildren: Tyler Durden of Strawberry Plains, TN and Emily Durden of Dandridge, TN; one great-grandchild: Sayler Arnold; his niece: Stephanie (Steve) Richardson of Paw Paw, MI; his nephew: Darrin (Julie) Rinehart of Kalamazoo, MI.

Steve was many things in his life; an outdoorsman, a farmer, a collector of many things, but most of all, he was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Steve's laugh was contagious, and his smile could brighten any room he entered. To know him was to truly love him.

A celebration of life for Steve will be held in the spring and more details will be made available by his family in the coming months.
