Richard "Rick" Michael Seams of Allegan, MI, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 31, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on July 3, 1956, in Kalamazoo, MI, he was the son of Shirley Yvonne Sherman.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly one-in-a-million soul — a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a friend to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Rick lived a life guided by quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and a work ethic that inspired everyone around him. He never met a person he didn’t get along with — and, more remarkably, he never met anyone who didn’t like him right back. His character was genuine, his smile easy, and his presence comforting.
Rick was the definition of a proud working man — dependable, humble, and incredibly skilled. He was deeply proud to have earned and carried four journeyman’s cards: Millwright, Pipefitter, Maintenance Mechanic, and Machine Repair — a rare and hard-earned accomplishment that reflected his unmatched versatility and expertise. His work ethic was nothing short of honorable. He approached every task, big or small, with a sense of pride and purpose.
He began his career at Plainwell Paper, where he worked faithfully for over 20 years. After leaving there, Rick joined Western Michigan University, serving the entire campus through the physical plant and maintenance department. He took great pride in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. From there, he went on to work for Pfizer in Holland, then transferred to Pfizer in Terre Haute, IN, followed by a return to Kalamazoo where he worked at Graphic Packaging, and eventually finished his professional career at Pfizer in Portage as a respected machine repairman.
Even after retirement, Rick didn’t slow down. True to his nature, he continued to seek employment opportunities — not because he had to, but because he loved working, being useful, and continuing to help others.
Outside of work, Rick was a man who found joy in simple, meaningful moments. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He had a gift for fixing things — and not just machines, but also life’s little problems. He was the one everyone turned to when something needed to be built, mended, or simply understood. He loved being needed, and nothing made him prouder than being able to lend a hand to his children and grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Ashbrook-Seams; his daughter, Laura (Seams) Craft; his stepdaughters, Aaron Marie and Virginia Johns; his adored grandchildren, Abby, Kyle, Connor, David, Ava, and Andrew; and his great-grandchildren, Noah and Emerson.
His legacy is one of humility, generosity, dedication, and boundless love. Rick truly was one in a million — and his memory will remain forever etched in the hearts of those who loved him.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.
