Robert D. Bainbridge
Robert D. Bainbridge, age 95, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Monday, February 3, 2014.
He was born December 18, 1918 in Butler, IN the son of Edward and Ida (Barnhill) Bainbridge. On January 22, 1943 in Wakelee, MI he married Carol Jean McKenzie who survives.
He graduated from high school in 1937 then attended Michigan State. Through hard work and determination he earned a Bachelor of Soil Science degree in 1942. In the mid 50’s Bob & Denio Caul organized the Michigan State Pork Council. The group promoted best practices for raising hogs throughout the world. He was a lifelong area farmer and sold Pioneer seed corn from 1970 to 2000. He was a member of the Rotary, and was on the School Board for the Lewis-Cass School District for 30 years. Additionally he was involved with the Cass County Soil Conservation District for many years and was a life long democrat.
Surviving beside his wife Carol, are two daughters, Kay (Jack) DeMaagd of Kalamazoo, MI and Ann (Jeffrey) Frymier of Oxford, OH; one son, Gary (Jill) Bainbridge of Sparta, NJ; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Bainbridge and thirteen brothers & sisters.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, Marcellus.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the funeral home with Pastor John Messner of the Marcellus United Methodist Church officiating.
Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the Marcellus School District.
