Robert Jon Furtwangler

FURTWANGLER, Robert Jon Plainwell Age 67, died at home on June 19, 2014 after fighting a lengthy battle with cancer. Robert (Bob) was born on December 10,1946 in Jackson, Michigan to Richard and Betty Furtwangler. Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mona Furtwangler, three children: daughter, Abbie (Thomas) Howard, son, Bret Furtwangler and daughter, Rebecca (Scott) Childress. Also surviving Bob are his granddaughters Mackenzie Bogema, Haley Childress and Megan Childress along with his honorary granddaughters, Lorelei and Elliot Hofacre. Bob is also survived by his mother, Betty Furtwangler (William Esmeier) of Yuma, AZ and sister Carole (Bill) Dangler of Ypsilanti, MI; along with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father Richard Furtwangler and his infant brother Barry. Bob spent his career in the welding industry. He retired from Michigan Airgas as an assistant safety director for the state of Michigan. After he retired, he enjoyed his part-time security position at Securitas Security Services. In his free time, Bob enjoyed woodworking, grilling and spending time with his granddaughters. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00pm at Haven Reformed Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Road, Kalamazoo, MI.
