Robert Perkins

Robert "Bob" Perkins, a beloved member of the Plainwell, MI community, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 58. Born on January 3, 1966, in Kalamazoo, MI, Bob was the cherished son of Sidney and Dorothy Perkins.

Bob attended Gull Lake High School and later found fulfillment in his career as a Forklift Operator, working at Tower Automotive and Total Logistic Controls TLC. It was at Parker Hannafin of Otsego, MI where he met the love of his life, Susan Kay Mejeur. The two were married on July 12, 1997, at the Rod and Gun Club on 11th Street, celebrating nearly 27 years of marriage this year. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Ashley Kay Perkins and Haley Noland Perkins.

Bob was preceded in passing by his parents and siblings: Esther Taylor, Sidney G. Perkins Jr, William J Perkins, and infant sister Mary Ann Perkins. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, daughters Ashley and Haley, sister Patty (Rex) Richardson, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Bob's faith and family were central to his life, and he took great pride in his daughters. He was a dedicated member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, where he found peace and comfort. He looked up to several godly men in the church as mentors and teachers.

He really enjoyed teaching his girls how to love the outdoors and to hunt and to fish.  He was so proud of his girls when they scored their first bucks, and he enjoyed mounting the antlers for them. He was heartbroken to find out that his cancer had returned and that he wouldn’t be here for his daughters’ future special moments or accomplishments such as college graduations, weddings and grandchildren.

Known for his love of deer hunting and fishing, Bob had a passion for the outdoors. His wife was his biggest competitor when it came to bass fishing. He found joy in cooking, especially using his three-burner deep fryer to create delicious meals. Bob also enjoyed making venison jerky and summer sausage and spending time camping with his family. He was a skilled handyman and took pride in assisting his nephew Adam with woodworking projects. He was a fan of Elvis Presley and the Detroit Lions.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral service, which will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 12220 Cressey Rd, Plainwell, MI 49080, on Monday, March 11, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Steve Smail. Bob will be laid to rest at Cressey Cemetery following the service.
