Roberta Jane Kuitert

October 17, 1949 – June 16, 2024

 Roberta (Bert/Berta) Kuitert of Plainwell, MI passed away at the age of 74. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI on October 17, 1949, the daughter of Robert (Bob) and Carol (Platt) Tompkins. 

On July 7, 1972, she was united in marriage to David Kuitert at the First United Methodist Church in Plainwell, where she was a member. 

Bert graduated from Plainwell High School in 1967. She worked in the office at Buryl Hill/Ideal Lift Truck in Kalamazoo from 1968-1999. In October of 2000 she began working in the Plainwell Middle School Library until her retirement in 2013. 

Bert was devoted to the church and community. She was a Sunday school teacher and youth group leader where she impacted the lives of many special young people. In addition, Bert prepared and served memorial luncheons, convalescent meals and most recently, a member of the Thursday Lunch Bunch, preparing and serving weekly meals to those in need. Bert also made sheet cakes for Music in the Park and cookies for the Christmas Parade.

The word “NO” was not in her vocabulary. 

Bert and Dave continued their Friday nite date nights throughout their marriage. They looked forward to the once-a-month Dinner Club with her high school classmates. They also enjoyed hosting Bert’s class in their home in December and again in the summer.

Left to cherish her memory are her completely devoted husband of 52 years, Dave; two sisters: Mary Schuiteboer (Steve) and Lezah LaPorte (Diana Cosby); two nieces and a nephew: Amy Schuiteboer Pellerin (Tim), Meghann Weinberg and John Schuiteboer; great nieces and nephews: Cody, Tristan, Isiah, Montana, and Jace, as well as, several cousins and many dear friends. 

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be made in her name to The First United Methodist Missions Fund or Wings of Hope Hospice.
