Roger Jacob Smith

SMITH, Roger Jacob MD Passed away January 12, 2010 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born January 21, 1933; son of the late Jacob M. Smith and Jennie Smith (Gierucki). Dr. Smith was a veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Michigan and Wayne State School of Medicine. Board Certified in Family Practice, he practiced medicine in Allegan and Kalamazoo since 1963. He was a member of the Amercian Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society and the Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine. Preceding him death were his son Roger J. Smith Jr; sister, Lorraine Rembelski and brother, David J. Smith. Surviving Dr. Smith are his wife, Karmena L. Smith; sister, Marilyn Ward (Dr. Ronald); brother-in-law, Dr. Konrads Lubavs (Aija); sister-in-law, Karen Smith; special family friend and colleague, Maj. Eric Kennedy and many nieces and nephews. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at Fort Custer in the summer. Arrangements are being made by Avink Funeral Home Cremation Society, 129 S. Grand, Schoolcraft, MI 49087. Memorials may be made to the Bronson School of Nursing (Western Michigan University) or Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, 5473 Croyden, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
