Roslyn passed away quietly surrounded by her family May 15, 2010. Roslyn was born April 14, 1925 in Mrs. Van Hoeven's Maternity Home in Grand Haven to Emma (Brown) Meinel and Otto Meinel. Roslyn resided in Nunica on her beloved farm. She graduated from Patchin School, a one room school house. In 1939, she moved to Kalamazoo to attend 9th grade at Milwood Junior High School. In 1943, she graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. She attended Western Michigan University and obtained two Bachelor's degrees as well as a Master's degree from the University of Michigan. While in college, she also worked as a long distance telephone operator at Bell Telephone Company. For 39 years, she taught elementary grades (K-6) in Plainwell, Grand Rapids, & Portage. She especially enjoyed working in combination rooms that had a mix of two grades (3rd / 4th). Her slogan with this group of students was, "the upper grade gets a review, while the lower grade gets a preview." Roslyn will be remembered for her famous caramels that she made at Christmas time and her love of sewing. Also, she was known as "The Hat Lady" because of all of the old fashioned hats in the back window of her car. On June 14, 1959, she married E. Lloyd Ludwig, who survives. Since 1960, she has lived in Portage. She is also survived by her daughter, Noralyn (Joseph) Pridgeon and grandsons Andrew and Mitchell who she referred to as Tiddlywinks and Rascal and loved to spoil. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Kym Lloyd (1986), and sisters D. Loine Lower and Aleonore DeMeester. At her request, cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date. The family will greet friends for a visitation on Sunday May 23, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church Kalamazoo from 1pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the West Michigan Cancer Center or Loaves and Fishes. Arrangements by:
