Roy Butcher of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, December 10,2024. Roy was born on January 30,1960 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of the late Edward and Mildred Butcher. After graduating from Portage Central High School in 1978, he enlisted in the army and served in Germany with the B BTRY 1ST BN FA USAREUR. After his discharge Roy joined the local army reserve unit in Kalamazoo for a few years and established a career with a business building industrial fluid chillers. A career that lasted for over 35 years.
Roy’s personal interests included making carved leather gifts for friends and family. He joined his father's hobby of taking his draft ponies and equipment to old time plow days and County fairs in SW Michigan. Later he became involved with Renaissance festivals and a performing sword fighting group. Lastly, Roy became interested in his Celtic heritage and became a representative of Clan Mclaughlin at Scottish festivals in the Midwest area.
Roy is survived by his sister Juanita Butcher; aunts and uncles Donald and Marla Butcher, Ronald and Melinda Parsano, and Sibyl Carlton as well as a dozen cousins.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents Edward E. Butcher and Mildred M. Butcher born Weck.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be in the veteran’s cemetery at Fort Custer, Battle Creek, Michigan. Memorial donations may be made in Roy’s memory to Honor Flight at https://www.honorflight.org/
