Roy Howard Davis

DAVIS, Roy Howard Schoolcraft, MI Roy passed away peacefully in his sleep January 4, 2012. He was born March 18, 1928 in Schoolcraft, MI, graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 1947, and married Mary Patricia "Pat" Avery on April 24, 1948. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verle and Charles Davis, his wife, Mary Patricia, and his brother, David Davis. He is survived by his children: Jackie (Skip) Fox, Dan Davis, Kerry (Bill) Batt, Scott (Sue) Davis, and Dawn (Mark) Simmons. Also surviving is his brother, Lyle "Rube" (Geneva) Davis. Roy loved being surrounded by his fourteen grandchildren: Matt, Marc, Melissa, Charlie, Austin, Brandon, Heather, Alishia, Meagan, Kyla, Daniall, Sean, Rory, Ryan and his twenty and a half great-grandchildren. Roy was a force of nature - someone who put significant time and effort into the town he lived in, a natural leader in his community. When he wasn't busy on projects for the community, Roy enjoyed playing cards with the guys, being in the middle of his boisterous family, and debating (arguing) with his friends - never a dull moment. In later years, you could see him on the golf cart with Pat, camped out at the Eagles eating one of Fred's famous lunches, or playing dice with Goldie, a supportive companion. Roy was a lifetime member of the Brethren of Schoolcraft Masonic Lodge #118. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post 475 and the Schoolcraft-Portage Eagles. Visitation on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Schoolcraft Upper Elementary School gymnasium. Funeral service following the visitation from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Luncheon served at Eagles on Shaver Road at 2:00 p.m. Contributions can be made to the Schoolcraft Community Foundation for Maintenance of the Davis Field.
