Sandra Kay Brueck

Sandra Kay Brueck, 76, of Three Rivers, passed away at home, Friday evening, January 8, 2016, in the presence of her loving family and caregiver. Sandra died from complications after a long, gracious struggle living with Multiple Sclerosis. Sandra was born July 23, 1939, in Three Rivers, daughter of Eldon and Lois (Oliver) Heckelbower. Sandra was united in marriage to her devoted husband David L. Brueck, August 13, 1960, in the First United Methodist Church of Three Rivers. After graduating from Three Rivers High School (1957), Sandra received a degree in Elementary Education and Art from Western Michigan University (1961). A tribute to her love of art is a beautiful stained glass window which she designed for WMU's Kanley Memorial Chapel. Sandra also loved teaching. She taught school in Burr Oak, Three Rivers, Constantine and several one room schoolhouses in St. Joseph County. She was especially loved by her students at the Stepping Stones Preschool where she was Director/Teacher for many years. Traveling, family trips to Mackinac, mushrooming, the St. Joseph County Fair and time spent at the family cottage on Clear Lake were always special times for her. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, joyful smile and a knack for writing limericks. Many loving memories will be cherished by her husband David, two sons, Jeffrey D. Brueck (Kathi) and John E. Brueck, both of Three Rivers, grandsons, Evan and Connor Brueck, sisters Barbara Davis (Tom) of Niles, MI., and Linda Lavelle (husband Jesse Perez) of Florida, numerous nieces and nephews, and special extended family. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Eldon and Lois (Oliver) Heckelbower. A memorial service will held Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, 2:00 p.m., at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 1200 Arnold St., Three Rivers, MI, with Rev. Kevin Brintnall of Grace Hospice officiating. The family will receive family and friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Cremation has taken place. Memorials in memory of Sandra may be directed to National MS Society or ThRive Memory
