ENGEL, Saundra
Portage
Passed away on August 9, 2014. She had just turned 72 years old in June. She had been battling small cell carcinoma lung cancer since last September. She loved and cherished spending time with her kids and nothing was more important than her six grandchildren. She retired from Portage Central Middle School after running the in-school suspension/detention room for many years. She was always loved and respected by the kids she came into contact with. She was a wonderful cook and there was always plenty of food for everybody when she was around. In the early years she enjoyed going to the car races and playing golf with her husband Robert Engel. Once she had kids they became her world. She attended all of their sporting events from when they were young all the way through college and then attended her grandkids' tball games. She always enjoyed a good laugh and always told it like it was no matter what people thought. She spent every day with two of her granddaughters until she was forced to give them up to preschool and kindergarten, she did that for six years Monday through Friday 12 hour days and she wouldn't have traded it for anything. She was the most kind and giving person you could ever meet. The family will be having a memorial/celebration of her life Sunday, August 17 at the BOLD restaurant from 3-7pm. If you would like to make any donations in her name please send them to West Michigan Cancer Center, Kalamazoo Humane Society, or Rose Arbor Hospice.
