Sharon Kay Powers, of Kalamazoo, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born on December 15, 1950 in Kalamazoo, MI. A proud member of the Class of 1969 from Kalamazoo Central High School, Sharon exemplified a life dedicated to her family and community. She dedicated her career to caring for others. She worked for Tendercare of Portage nursing home, followed by her service at Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw and at Portage Public Schools.
Sharon was united in marriage to Claude "David" Powers on October 11, 1969. After nearly 45 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in July 2014. Together, they raised two children, Lisa and Michael.
Throughout her life, Sharon was described as family-oriented, possessing a sweet personality that radiated kindness and selflessness. Her home was a welcoming sanctuary, where no one left hungry, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her homemade goulash is fondly remembered by her loved ones. She especially cherished time with her family during the holidays.
A longstanding member of Green Meadow Bible Baptist Church for over 50 years, Sharon’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. In her spare time, she found solace and joy in reading the Bible, baking, gardening, and engaging in word search puzzles.
Sharon's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Sharon will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
In addition to her husband, Sharon Powers was preceded in death by her parents: Donald Roe Sr. and Gloria (Roe) Sell; and five siblings: Robert Roe, Michael Roe, Lawrence Roe, Diana Searles, and George Roe.
She is survived by her two children: Lisa (Garett) Brown, of Portage; and Michael Powers, of Portage; six grandchildren: Heather (Ryan) Morris, of Portage; Kaylee Frye, of Three Rivers; Brittany (Austin) Nault, of IN; Marina Davidson, of Homer; Toby Powers, of Vicksburg; and Kaya Powers, of Vicksburg; four great-grandchildren: Adestria Davidson, Ozil Davidson, Lincoln Frye and Audrey Morris. She is also survived by seven siblings: Donald Roe Jr., of Kalamazoo; Theresa (Rick) Jackson, of Portage; Schewanna French, of Augusta; Cathy Wiers, of Galesburg; Neil Roe, of Kalamazoo; Nancy Gibbs, of Parchment; and Frances Roe, of Kalamazoo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 4th from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 5th at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will be at South Portage Cemetery.
