Steven Allen

Steve Schau Allen of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born on August 13, 1950, in Kalamazoo, the beloved son of Gerald and Marian (Schau) Allen.

Steve graduated from Plainwell High School in 1968 and studied Electronics at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and enjoyed a successful career as an electrician. Later he went on to pursue his passion for aviation at Western Michigan University's Aviation School, earning his pilot's license.

Steve found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing off his boat on private lakes and on trips to Canada. Corvettes brought him immense joy, and he cherished the thrill of the open road. Many of his fondest memories were made at the cottage in Baldwin, MI, where he spent countless weekends with his best friend, Mike. Even in recent weeks, their biweekly breakfasts remained a cherished tradition.

He maintained lifelong friendships, gathering each summer with a group of high school friends to camp, canoe, and golf, a testament to the bonds he nurtured over the years. As a pilot, Steve embraced the skies, flying small planes with a deep sense of adventure.

At home, Steve shared a quiet and peaceful life with his wife, Rhonda. Together, they spent serene mornings on the patio or in the sunroom, savoring coffee and watching the deer and birds in their backyard. Their fur babies, Boots and Callie, were constant companions, offering comfort and joy.

Steve's love of travel took him on yearly trips to the Florida Keys and summer visits to the Cadillac, MI area. In 2019, he celebrated his stepdaughter Rachel's wedding with a memorable vacation in Jamaica, a treasured family moment.

A former member of Lake Doster Reformed Church, Steve's faith and values were evident in the kindness and loyalty he showed to those he loved.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Marian Allen; his son, Matthew Allen; his brother, Richard Allen; his aunt, Jean Schau; and his beloved fur baby, Zoey.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixteen years, Rhonda; his stepdaughter, Rachel (Dan) Jarvis; and many dear friends who will miss him deeply.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve's honor to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Steve will be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering friendships, and the peaceful moments he so deeply cherished. May he find eternal rest, embraced by the love of those who have gone before him.
