Steven Douglas Preston went into the arms of our lord at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, at Ascension Resurrection Hospital in Chicago.
Proceeding him in death are his grandparents Harry (Elise) Preston, Harley (Margaret) Stafford and his infant grandson Elijah Preston.
He is survived by his wife Larisa and stepson Alekei, his parents John (Bonnie) Preston, daughter Cheyenne (Preston) Walker and two granddaughters Nova Michele Walker and LilliAnn Walker, several aunts and uncles and a very dear friend Shari Romanski.
His love for trains began at a very early age. Perhaps it was because his grandparents lived in Vicksburg, Michigan by a train depot. He was always asking grandpa to take him to the train tracks when he would hear the train whistle so he could watch them go by. Later in life, he found a friend Smithy Smith and they got together and formed a friendship. Before you knew it, they were chasing trains together and spending time at BO tower in Kalamazoo Michigan. His lifelong dream of becoming a train engineer became a reality later on in life. After that, he got into computer work and became an IT Tech and worked for many companies.
He loved going to Union Pier in Chicago and on one special occasion with his mom and friend Justin took a long boat trip on the tall ship Windy.
About 3 years ago, he developed cancer, and it has been a long road never to recover. His love for life remained and he never let himself feel down. Even when he didn’t feel well, he moved forward with his family. On March 2, 2024, he married Larisa Novikova in an intimate wedding at Mirror Lake in Indiana attended by family and friends.
Our hearts are in a very empty place right now, but we will move forward because we know God holds him in the palm of his hand. We won’t say goodbye, well say till we meet again. We love you son.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private internment has taken place.
