Sue Ann Richardson

October 26, 1940 — December 30, 2024

Vicksburg, MI

Sue A. Richardson, a spirited soul, left this world on December 30th at the age of 84, after a brief battle with illness, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Born in Vicksburg on October 26, 1940, to Donald and Gladys Smith, Sue grew into a remarkable woman. It was in her hometown that she met the love of her life, Willis (Bill) Richardson. Their wedding in June of 1959 marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey together, one that would lead them to Portage and eventually, back to their hometown of Vicksburg in 1990.

Together, Bill and Sue cultivated a beautiful family, raising two wonderful children, Michael and Michelle. Sue was not just a mother; she was a passionate supporter at every little league game, a guiding hand in girl scouts, and an enthusiastic participant in all of her children's hobbies. Later in life she would continue to support her grandchildren through their hobbies as well, embracing every moment spent at horse, goat or dog shows. Time spent with family, whether work or play, was so valuable to Sue. She was a pillar of support for her entire family. She devoted her career to the Kalamazoo State Hospital, running the laundry department with a work ethic that defined her character.

Sue’s love for animals was boundless, especially for her beloved dogs and horses, who filled her life with joy and companionship. She found great happiness in nature, camping trips and travel adventures with friends.. After retiring, she and Bill set sail on numerous cruises with her sister Pat and brother-in-law Arthur. Together they created countless unforgettable memories along the way.

The world feels a little dimmer without her presence, but Sue’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those she left behind. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Bill, and their cherished daughter Michelle. She is survived by her devoted son, Michael (Laura), son-in-law Brad, and her four grandchildren, Sara (Kevin), Andrew (Emily), Heather (Jordan), and Lily (John). Along with her precious great-granddaughters—Brynnley, Harper, Cadence, and Raelynn—she was lovingly known as GiGi, and was so proud to have them around. Additionally, she leaves behind step-great grandchildren and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.

Sue was a remarkable woman, known for her strength and deep affection for her family, and her absence is profoundly felt by all who knew her.
