Susan Smith

Susan Lynn Smith, 72, of Schoolcraft, MI, passed away on March 13th, 2025, surrounded by family at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born February 25th ,1953 in Kalamazoo, MI.

Susan was married to the love of her life, Richard Smith, on December 24th, 1972, in Schoolcraft, MI. They were married for 52 years and are the Father and Mother to 4 boys.

She worked as a Food Service Employee at Schoolcraft Community Schools for many years before retiring in 2005.

Susan especially loved plants and gardening. She loved and adored her grandchildren. Susan was also a great animal Mom, especially to her Labrador Retrievers.

Remaining to cherish Susan’s memory are spouse, Richard Smith; children, Michael Schippers, Keith Smith, Robert Smith, Scott Mancino-Smith; grandchildren, Wyatt Schippers, Daina Schippers, Brianna Standish, Hudson Mancino-Smith, Rollins Mancino-Smith, Wells Mancino-Smith; sisters, Lorraine Dimmick, Nancy Knipfel.

Preceding Susan in death are parents, Claude and Deborah (Hackett) Schippers; brothers, Donald Schippers and David Schippers.

Susan was cremated and laid to rest at the Schoolcraft Township Cemetery on March 23rd 2025, with Pastor Dave Sanders, officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Susan’s memory may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or Kalamazoo Animal Rescue.
