Susan Annette Thomas, age 72, of Scotts, Michigan, passed away on March 25, 2025, at the age of 72. Sue was born on January 16, 1953, in Mount Pleasant. She lived a life rich in love, creativity, and community service. She graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in 1971. While in school she was a cheerleader.
After high school, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Western Michigan University. It was during her time at Western that she became a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, a connection that would ultimately lead her to meet the love of her life, John Thomas. The couple married on July 28, 1978, and together they spent 46 joyful years creating countless memories and enjoyed traveling together around the world.
Susan dedicated over 20 years of her life to the Vicksburg Community Schools as a teacher. She imparted knowledge and inspiration at Sunset Elementary before transitioning to Vicksburg Middle School, where her impact was deeply felt by students and staff alike. Her contributions to education were invaluable, and her nurturing spirit left an indelible mark on the lives of the students she taught.
Beyond her professional life, Susan was known for her vibrant personality. Described by her family as creative, fun-loving, and a natural networker, she had a unique gift for making friends everywhere she went. Those who knew her often remarked that she was everyone’s newest best friend. Her knack for decorating brought warmth and joy to every holiday, turning simple gatherings into extraordinary celebrations.
Living on Long Lake fueled her passion for the outdoors and entertaining. She enjoyed decorating their boat for the 4th of July boat parade, showcasing her spirited enthusiasm. Susan was also an avid shopper, a gardener, and loved to bake. You could also find her playing Euchre and going for walks. Her greatest joy in life was spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Her legacy of love and kindness will undoubtedly live on through the many lives she touched.
Sue is survived by her husband of 46 years: John; three children: Ryan and wife Noreen Thomas of Portage, MI; Lindsay and husband Kevin Dodd of Naples, FL; Alysse Thomas of Scotts, MI; four grandchildren: Liam Thomas, Una Thomas, Macy Dodd, and Brooks Dodd. and her two brothers, James and his wife Kathy Coady of Paw Paw, MI; and Terry and his wife Laurie Coady of Tarpon Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Maurie and Ginny Coady.
A Celebration of Life will take place on April 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Angels Crossing Golf Club in Vicksburg, MI. All who knew Susan are invited to join her family in honoring her memory.
