Suzanne M. Hutchinson

Suzanne Marie Hutchinson (Brown) 92, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2021. She was born December 18, 1928 to Isabelle and Gerald Brown at William Crispe Hospital in Plainwell, MI. Suzanne lived most of her life in Plainwell, and married her childhood sweetheart, LaVern Hutchinson on September 21, 1952. She had two daughters, Lyn (Spontelli) and Robin (Courts). She is a Graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She loved teaching fourth grade at Starr Elementary School for 27 years, and had a great fondness for all of her students. Suzanne loved classical music and was an accomplished flute player. She was accepted as a member of the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony when she was in the 8th grade, and went on to play first flute in the Kalamazoo Symphony for many years. Sue played often in church, local music groups, and also taught lessons. She loved poetry, reading, taking care of her backyard birds, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and traveling. Her most memorable trip was to Ireland in 1979 with her mother, sister, two aunts and her cousin. She was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Along with her daughters, Suzanne is survived by her sister, Barbara Benedict of Portage, MI; and brother Richard Brown of Flagstaff, AZ. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Mike Spontelli; her grandchildren Jillian Wells, Elizabeth (Devin) Berghorst, and Carly Courts; two great grandchildren, Peyton Wells, and Grayson Berghorst; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and grandson, (Michael Spontelli). In keeping with her wishes, a private memorial and graveside service will be taking place. Sue was loved very dearly by her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed. Her family would appreciate donations to the Kalamazoo Nature Center in her memory.
