Sylvia Ellen Dykema
"Sil"
December 13, 1928- October 30, 2013
Sylvia (known as: "Sil") was born in Kalamazoo along with her twin sister, Annette (Waber) on December 13, 1928 to Clara and Herbert Dykema. Sil was full of life and laughter, enjoyed playing practical jokes, had a huge heart for her family and friends and was generous to others in order to ease their struggles. Sil was employed for over 30 years in a variety of capacities at the Upjohn Company. Celebrating her life are nieces: Vicky (Mark) Niewoonder Family (Erin, Steve, Sydney, Olivia, Ryan and Danielle), Debbie (Steve) Mickschl Family (Jennifer, Bobby Nathan, Tyler), The Cleland Families, Marcia (Andrew) Weare, nephew Alan Dykema and Mom Sena, and Annette (George) Waber. Sil attended Southern Heights CRC and Second Reformed Church. Her Christian faith was important to her, and she now rejoices in heaven with her best friend, Rita, Mom, Dad, three brothers and a nephew. A celebration of Sil's life will be held on November 9th in the lower level of Second Reformed Church at 1:00. After the service, we invite people to meet at Sil's favorite place, Fletcher's Pub, on Oakland Dr. for a time to share memories about Sil. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, where Sil volunteered, or Second Reformed Church. Special thanks to the caring and loving staff at Bronson Commons, who have cared for Sil over the past four years.
