Teri Lynn Gilger

Teri Gilger passed away on November 30th, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on November 17, 1959, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Teri graduated from Portage Central High School in 1978 where she excelled at many sports.  She received a softball scholarship to Western Michigan University.

For the next 25 years, she was a beloved teacher in the Montgomery County Public School District in Maryland. She retired in 2016 and built a brand-new home on Gun Lake. Teri loved playing pickleball, hiking, biking and shopping garage sales.

Teri is survived by her brother Tom (Jeanette) Gilger; her sister Tami (Mark) Elzinga and her nieces: Amanda (Coty) Perin, Joanie (Adrian) Gilger, Janice Dixon and Janice’s children: Johanan Dixon and Jeremiah Dixion. Also surviving her are the entire Chamberlain, Mills, Burnett, Jaqua and George families.

Preceding her in death is her wife, Pam Chamberlain; her parents Jan and Duane Gilger; her stepmother Sandy Gilger and her nephew Jake Elzinga.

We would like to give a special thanks to her dear friend Sally Stahl for all her help and support.

Despite it all, Teri never gave up. She remained brave, determined and handled the cancer diagnosis with the utmost Grace. 

A memorial gathering will take place on Sunday, December 17th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home; 120 S. Woodhams St. in Plainwell (269) 685-5881. Friends are invited to share memories at 3:00 p.m.
