Theodore Edward (Ted) Snow
Passed away January 16, 2015. Born May 15, 1927 in Kalamazoo MI to Thomas and Alien (Earle) Snow. Ted spent his boyhood years in Andrews IN but returned to Kalamazoo to complete high school and was a Kalamazoo Central graduate. Married to Betty Jane Perigo May 29, 1945. During World War II Ted served in the U.S. Fifth Army Finance Division and was stationed at Fort Sheridan Illinois and Fort McCoy Wisconsin. A lifelong businessman, Ted was a post-war cost accountant for the Ruud Manufacturing Company, then became the office manager, accountant and chief financial officer for the Harding Supermarkets and was on the Boards of Directors of many Harding corporations. Ted was also the general manager of the Harding affiliate D.T. (Diamond Thrift) Sales Company, and in the early 1960s served as vice-president of the Washington Square Merchant's Association. During these years Ted helped form the Westwood Little League, provided team sponsorship (Harding's, Diamond Thrift), and served two years as league treasurer. Ted left the Harding organization c. 1964 and with the help of family and close associates built and developed Ridge View Golf Course, which the family owned and operated from 1966 until its sale in 1975. The course remains in operation to the present date. Ted was at one time active in local government and served one term as the Oshtemo Township Treasurer, and two terms as an Oshtemo Township Trustee. Following retirement in 1977, Ted and Betty traveled extensively, visiting all 50 United States as well as Canada, Mexico, the British Isles and numerous European countries. Throughout his life Ted supported land preservation and was responsible for planting hundreds of trees, bushes and flowers on his various properties. He and his wife spent several winters in the Florida Keys. Ted's hobbies included salt water fishing, photography, model trains and the occasional round of golf. His later years were spent at his home in Kalamazoo. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother, Kenneth Delbert Snow of Andrews IN, and by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jane (Perigo) Snow. Ted is survived by his sister, Betty J. Korreckt of Huntington IN, by his son, Dale Alan Snow and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Jane Snow of Portage MI, by his granddaughter, Cheryl Lynne Snow and husband, Joseph Thomas Tieu, and their daughter, Kate Mackenzie Tieu, of St. Louis MO, and by many nieces and nephews. There will be no formal memorial service. Ted's life will be honored at a private family gathering at a later date.
