Twila Leone Ledbetter-Shirey ... passed away June 21, 2014 Twila was born on April 19, 1922 in Augusta, MI to Claude and Mable Whipple. She graduated from Comstock High School, where she began a proud tradition of playing Women's Basketball in high school, which was carried down to her granddaughter and great-granddaughters. In August of 1940, she married the love of her life, Dallas Ledbetter who passed away in 1981. She later married Bill Shirey, who is also deceased. Twila was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Richard and Kenneth Whipple. She is survived by her sons Dennis Leddbetter and Douglas (Judy) Ledbetter both from Comstock, her loving sister Katherine Egler of Portage, her granddaughters Theresa Winchester of Paw Paw, Laurie Connor of Comstock and Lisa Dolby of Portage, grandsons Matthew Ledbetter of Delton, David Ledbetter of Ohio, Darren Ledbetter of Kalamazoo and Lucas Ledbetter of Pennsylvania, two great-grandsons Seth Winchester of Grand Rapids, Drew Dolby of Portage, two great-granddaughters Taylor Connor of Dallas, TX and Mallory Connor of Comstock and several nieces and nephews. Our special thanks to Monica and all the dedicated caregivers and staff at Clare Bridge of Portage for the wonderful care they gave our mother in her last few years. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will held at a later date, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Dallas Ledbetter in Augusta. Twila had a special love for the many dogs she cherished throughout her years and if you wish to make a donation in her name, please do so to the Kalamazoo County Animal Services or to the charity of your choice.
