Vernon Duane Noel, a beloved member of the Vicksburg community and a dedicated family man, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on March 31, 1930, in Vicksburg, Michigan, Vernon was the son of Virgil and Dorothy (Smith) Noel.
Vernon’s commitment to community and family was evident from an early age. He graduated from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1948, where he distinguished himself as a talented athlete and one of the fastest runners in the area. This competitive spirit carried through to his later life, as he became actively involved in various local sports programs. His proudest accomplishments included serving as president of the Little League and coaching Rocket Football, as well as participating in bowling and playing fast pitch softball.
Vernon married the love of his life, Janet Lee (Zimmerman) Noel, of August 5, 1950. Together they raised five children: Walter, Wayne, Terri, Sherry, and Steve. Vernon and Janet loved to travel together and did so as often as they could.
Professionally, Vernon worked as a print press operator for the Upjohn Company, where he built a reputable career. After retiring in his 50s, he embraced retirement and enjoyed many fulfilling years pursuing his passions. He was proud of the fact that he was able to enjoy as many years of retirement as he did years working. Vernon had his passions in life such as his favorite activities: playing cards, taking trips to the casino, and engaging in the great outdoors. He was a gardener and puzzle enthusiast, but also hunting and fishing were particularly dear to his heart.
A man of strong will and independence, Vernon was known for his competitive nature and love of outdoor activities. His adventurous spirit was showcased when he appeared on the Michigan Out-of-Doors television program, further highlighting his connection to the Michigan landscape he cherished.
Vernon Duane Noel leaves behind a legacy of dedication to family, community, and the joys of life that he so passionately embraced. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know him.
