Violet Evans

Evans, Violet Ann age 92 of Portage, went home peacefully to her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2025, in her home at The Vineyards Assisted Living. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI on June 14,1932 to Stephen and Anna Sluka (Zlinka). Violet was raised in Kalamazoo, MI where she graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1950. Soon after graduating, she met the love of her life, Jack Howard Evans. They united in marriage on July 25, 1953.

Violet had many interests. Her favorite activity was for she and Jack to go dancing! She was also an avid bowler and member of the 500 club. Violet so enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, after dinner walks with Jack, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the company of family and friends. Violet worked for Jolly Kids and The Upjohn company, retiring in 1992. Violet was a member of The American Legion, The Eagles, VFW, and a lifelong member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

Violet is survived by her son David (Barbara) Evans, her daughter Brenda Gagie, grandchildren Margaret (Jeremy) Smith, Rebecca Evans, Elena Evans, Stephanie Evans, Andrew Gagie (Audrey), Anna (Bradley) Trullinger, great grandchildren, Jamie and Harrison Smith, Adele, Maeve, and Helen Gagie, Charlie, Henrik, and Beau Trullinger, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack, brother John Paska, sister Jolan Boyle, and son Dr. Thomas Evans.

The Family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by all the outstanding staff at The Vineyards Assisted Living, Centrica Care Hospice, and Visiting Angels. She so deeply loved all the relationships that were developed along the way.

Memorial services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 9420 Portage Road, Portage, MI 49002. A memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon, at the same location. A luncheon to follow the service. Violet will be laid to rest at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

Vi’s love and laughter will be deeply missed. May she rest in eternal peace.
