ACKERMAN, WALTER 6/29/1930 - 5/28/2016 Vicksburg Walter "Walt" Ackerman, 85 of Vicksburg, MI passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 fol¬lowing illness at Gull Arbor Senior Living. Walt was born on June 29, 1930 to Bernard and Wilma Ackerman in Kalamazoo. He graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1948, and married his high school sweetheart, Culia Vance December 9, 1948. He served in the Army for three years during which time his first daughter, Cindy, was born. Upon his return from overseas Walt and Culia had two more children, daughters Shelley and Evelyn. He retired from Impact Label at the age of 65. In the late 1950s Walt was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and later served as an elder in the Vicksburg congregation. He continued to serve as an elder up until his death, devoting his life to his ministry and helping people in the congregation. Walt was always a jokester and loved to make people laugh, which was one of his most endearing qualities. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days. Walt enjoyed vacationing to Arizona with his wife, Culia. Walter was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Mary, and his beloved wife Culia. Survived by his three daughters Cindy Houser (Terry), Shelley Prewitt, and Evelyn Whitmer (Jim); 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Chuck Ackerman (Barbara), John Ackerman (Sally); sisters Evelyn Charles (Gus), Denise Parker (Douglas), Bonnie Ivens (Thomas); many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 15029 S 24th St, Vicksburg, MI 49097 on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 3:30pm. Family will receive visitors from 2:00pm-3:00pm. In Lieu of flowers, those that wish to make contributions please make donations to The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and Grace Hospice.
