William (Bill) David Bowen of Vicksburg, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early hours of Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the age of 84. He was born on Saturday, April 17, 1937, in Atlanta, MI to William Martin and Nellie Mary (Turppa) Bowen.
Bill graduated from Pinconning High School in 1955. A month later he started working at Dow Chemical and retired as a Master Pipefitter at age 53. Bill married Martha Irene Hawkins on August 24, 1957. They lived in Rhodes, MI for a few years before moving to Midland, Michigan where they raised their 4 children. Bill served as Santa Claus at the Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek, MI for 17 years. Bill was an active member of Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene. He was also an active member of The Gideons International for 55 years, where he distributed Bibles on college campuses, high schools, jails/prisons, hospitals, and hotels. Bill enjoyed gardening, servicing golf carts, and volunteering at Indian Lake Nazarene Camp. Bill always had a loving and giving personality, and he will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
Bill is preceded in his passing by his daughter-in-law Kristin Bowen.
Left to cherish Bill’s loving memory is his wife of sixty-four years: Martha Irene (Hawkins) Bowen; children: Yvonne & Jonathan Biggar, Debra & Steven Reader, William A. Bowen, and Yalonda & J. Mitchell Combs; grandchildren: Rebecca, Allison, Gretchen, Sara, Adam, Renee, Mandy, Emily, Abigail, Tim, Jake, and Miguella; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, a public funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, 7520 East U Avenue, Vicksburg, MI 49097. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and last until the time of service at 12:00 noon. He will be laid to rest on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Midland Memorial Gardens, Midland, MI.
Memorials made in Bill’s memory may be directed to Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, The Gideons International, or Indian Lake Nazarene Camp. Envelopes will be available at the church on the day of service.
