Passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2015. Bill was born April 23, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the son of Maynard and Mary Brown. He graduated from Schoolcraft High School and attended Kalamazoo College. He served in the Army in WWII and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany. Bill was united in marriage to Jeanette VanderVeen on October 10, 1946. Together they raised a family of four children: Jacque (Rich) Jackson, Ronald (Shar) Brown, Wendy (Rick) Palmer and Pamela (Jeff) Sommerfeld along with five grandchildren; Jennifer, Sean, Emily, Meagan and Tanner and nine great grandchildren; Emily, Cathryn, Sydney, Zachary, Maxwell, Mitchell, Elizabeth, Zachary and Ada. He is survived by one sister, Bette Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jeanette.
Bill enjoyed following sports, especially the Schoolcraft Eagles and the Detroit Tigers. He liked to stay active and could frequently be seen on his daily walks in the village. Bill also enjoyed crossword puzzles, going out to eat and spending time with family.
Bill was a strong supporter of the Eagle's Nest Food Pantry and the family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, PO Box 635, Schoolcraft, MI 49087 (Eagle's Nest Food Pantry).
Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2015 at 10:00am at the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church with a service following at 11:00am with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating.
